Meet Makela, Co-Founder of Bloomy

Each month, we’re highlighting an incredible event host from the Bloomy community - starting with one of our own! To kick off our first Well-Hosted Spotlight, we sat down with Makela, co-founder of Bloomy, to talk about event hosting, what makes a great wellness experience, and the lessons learned along the way.

💡 What inspired you to start Bloomy?

Each of us as co-founders, were inspired by different things. For me, Bloomy exists because I was tired of two things:

1️⃣ Going out with friends and doing things (like drinking) that left me feeling like complete sh*t (excuse my language).
2️⃣ Seeing amazing wellness events on Instagram - only to find out about them way too late.

I knew there had to be an easier way to discover the hundreds of wellness experiences happening every week in LA specifically. So we launched a weekly newsletter and social accounts, and three months later, we built a website to make event discovery seamless.

Fast forward two years, and after building out discovery and hosting our own events, we ran into another problem - ticketing. High fees, zero discovery, and impossible-to-reach support (you know who I’m talking about). Instead of complaining, we focused on building the solution.

Our mission is simple: empower people to take care of themselves by making it easy to find and attend experiences that will leave them feeling better than when they walked in. And what's one way to do that? Support the incredible individuals and companies that make these events happen.

🎟️ What do you think makes a wellness event feel truly ‘well-hosted’?

Intention & personal connection.

Just because you can host an event doesn’t always mean you should (I say this way too often). A well-hosted event is one where:

1️⃣ You know exactly what you want people to walk away with

2️⃣ You’re clear on who it’s for

3️⃣ You create ways for people to feel connected to YOU as a human

It doesn’t have to be complicated - people can feel when something is planned with care.

📈 What’s one piece of advice you’d give to wellness event hosts?

Okay, two things:

1️⃣ Less is more when it comes to event descriptions. Some of these descriptions are getting out of control! Use this simple blueprint:

✔️ What will attendees actually be doing?

✔️ Who is this for?

✔️ What will they walk away with?

 Everything else is fluff.

2️⃣ Ticket your event through Bloomy. (Shameless plug, but seriously)

✨ What’s a wellness event you attended that really stuck with you?

I’ve been to so many incredible events, and honestly, what sticks with me shifts depending on what I need at different times.

But across the board, the events that leave the biggest impact are the ones that:

1️⃣ Lead with community - where the focus is on attendees connecting rather than just watching.

2️⃣ Make attendees feel like the stars of the show instead of the host being the center of attention.

The wellness space can feel intimidating sometimes, so when a host truly creates an open and welcoming environment, it makes all the difference.

🌿 What’s a wellness trend you’re excited about right now?

The shift from hyper-productivity to unplanned, unscheduled time with friends.

For so long, the conversation around wellness has been about structuring our days, optimizing routines, and squeezing every last ounce of productivity out of our lives. But some of the most nourishing moments happen when we don’t plan - just showing up, hanging out, and being present.

I’m excited to see how this mindset starts shaping events - less “structured programming,” more space to just be.
